About Charles

I was born in Vancouver into a believing family in 1961 as the oldest of four children. While some folks are able to specify the date of their conversion, for me it is more of a “knowing” but not having a specific date or event that I can look back on and say, “That was when I gave my life over to Christ”. I can say that I do know that I am saved by the blood of Christ. In spite of some birth defects I led a relatively normal childhood and graduated with honors from high school and "Magna cum Laude" from the British Columbia Institute of Technology in Building Technology, Mechanical Systems. I worked for about 10 years in building mechanical design followed by 5 years for a contractor before operating my own business for 10 years. Towards the last few years of my own business I felt less satisfied with work. I was looking for work with a more lasting impact on humanity than simply constructing buildings and adjusting building mechanical systems. This desire, along with our work with Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship and other local mission oriented work led us to full time missions work.

For five years from 2004 through 2009 I worked in Guatemala at the Christian Academy of Guatemala.

I served as the shop teacher, teaching both auto shop and wood shop to the middle and high school students.  I also looked after the maintenance at the school campus where I fixed everything from leaky toilets to broken office equipment and tools.
