We like to greet you with the lyrics of the following song
“Why should I feel discouraged, why should the shadows come,
Why should my heart be lonely, and long for heaven and home,
When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is He:
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
I sing because I’m happy,
I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow,
And I know He watches me.
“Let not your heart be troubled,” His tender word I hear,
And resting on His goodness, I lose my doubts and fears;
Though by the path He leadeth, but one step I may see;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.
Whenever I am tempted, whenever clouds arise,
When songs give place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to Him, from care He sets me free;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”
This summer we experienced the truth of these words. During all these miles we have already traveled, God watched over us. As we came through Mexico, we saw several severe accidents, some of which had just happened minutes before we got there. Several accidents ended in fatalities.
The truth of Matthew 10:29-31 gives us assurance in the present. We were privileged to host a team of Brothers and Sisters from the Portland area. Together with them we served at three different projects. It was a privilege to see how diverse God’s family is and how He leads each and every one of His children. Brothers and Sisters in Guatemala are singing because they know that God watches them, just like he watches Brothers and Sisters from the States and other parts of the world.
This song gives us hope and confidence. Charles is scheduled for open heart surgery sometime this fall. Thus, our entire family will spend the first school semester in Cranbrook, BC on medical furlough and home service. . James and Jonathan will complete their school work in a home school setting and submit their work via e-mail to their instructors at CAG. We are returning to Guatemala in January 2007, Lord willing.
May God bless you richly, as you remember that His eye is on the sparrow be assured that He watches you as well.
